Found at depths of 3-25 m, solitary or in small groups around sponges and tunicates on coral outcrops and in reef crests with large rounded corals, or encrusted sponges to about 10 m depth. Females are commonly seen and seem to outnumber males. Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive, and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal. Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters.
