Inhabits large rivers as well as small tributaries. Prefers well-vegetated stream margins with soft mud bottom. Feeds on insects, crustaceans and fishes. Aquarium conditions: pH=7.2, H=10, 26°C water temperature, carnivore, egg layer, needs plant and rock cover, not easy for beginning aquarists.

Two aquariums from Southeast Asia: calm forest streams and peat swamps with soft, brown water, and fast mountain streams with cool, oxygen-rich water.
The home of rainbowfish: water, substrate, plants and light for rainbowfish, blue-eyes and peacock gudgeons, with a long aquarium and open water in the middle.
